Honors Academy student Bachelor Applied Physics

Ananya Venkatasubramanian

I was really intrigued when I attended the Radio Astronomy info session. I felt this would be the perfect opportunity for me to be challenged and do a project allowing me to learn something by doing. As a team we managed to build an actual radio telescope on campus that can detect signals from space.

What I learned goes far beyond the technical aspects. I discovered what it's like being part of a team, what it's like to lead a team, and how to manage technical and personal objectives. The Honors Academy really focuses on personal development, and I definitely witnessed that. Working with people from different backgrounds and studies was amazing, seeing how everyone uses their discipline and knowledge for a project like this.

It really is an extra challenge to combine with your regular study, but that's the whole point. I was dead set on doing well in both my bachelor's and my honors, and I'm quite happy that I managed to do that. Meeting so many interesting people along the way is what made it extra special for me
