Daan completed a double master's degree in Mechanical Engineering and Sustainable Energy Technology in 2024. His interest in the energy transition was the driving force behind this choice. While technical knowledge is essential for developing solutions, it is not the only skill needed to create real impact, he explains. Understanding the transition from multiple perspectives is equally important. The flexibility of the programs allowed him to tailor his education to his interests, combining technical depth with a broader understanding of the challenges surrounding sustainable energy.

Learning by doing became a defining part of his master's experience. During his bachelor's degree, Daan discovered that he learns best when theory is combined with hands-on projects, and he found the master's programs reflected that same philosophy. Nearly every course gave him the opportunity to apply what he had learned in practice. I found the master's program to be built around the same principle, with nearly every course supported by a project that allowed me to apply what I learned in practice, he says. This project-based approach helped bridge the gap between the classroom and the real world, preparing him for the challenges he would later encounter in industry.
One experience stands out above all others: his graduation project at Equans. What began as a thesis project became an opportunity to contribute directly to a real-world challenge at the Brainport Industries Campus. I am proud of the results we achieved and even more proud of the challenges I overcame throughout the project, Daan reflects. Working alongside industry professionals showed him how complex energy challenges rarely have a single correct answer. Instead, they require collaboration, adaptability, and the ability to bring together different perspectives to create workable solutions.
