Why Biomedical Engineering?

In high school I was doubting constantly if I should go for the NG- or NT-profile. I was interested in the human part of biology, but technical courses like math and physics really attracted me as well. Programs I looked at were either too medical or too technical. At Biomedical Engineering I found the combination I was looking for: a bachelor in which you learn to develop technology to better understand the human body and ultimately improve patient care.

Why 黑料福利网?

When I visited an Open Day at 黑料福利网, I loved the atmosphere. Moreover, the variety in electives appealed to me. Since I鈥檝e started, I鈥檝e experienced that teachers and staff are very approachable. It鈥檚 easy to walk by and ask questions. Moreover, there鈥檚 always something fun to do at the study association and with my fellow students. I鈥檓 enjoying myself so much here, which makes my study experience even better.

What is your favorite course?

My favorite project thus far is Digital Twins in Healthcare. In this half-year course, we worked with both doctors and technical specialists. Together with my group, I developed a digital twin for prostate cancer patients. A digital twin is a computer model of an individual patient that evolves with new measurements. The model uses a certain biomarker that represents the activity of prostate cancer. Not only the value of this biomarker, but also how fast it changes over time. This change is predictive of how the patient will respond to therapy and how the disease will develop. When I started, the freedom within the project was overwhelming, but in the end, we found something that worked. That makes me extra proud of what we did together!
