Integrated Photonics manipulates light on a microscopic chip for communication, computing, imaging and sensing applications. This technology is revolutionizing fields requiring massive bandwidth, low power consumption, and extreme precision.

Course setup

The course combines expert lectures, industry case studies, guided teamwork sessions, and site visits to leading photonics organizations in the Eindhoven region.

 

The course will start with an introduction to the technology, the different integrated photonics platforms, and the process of taking a circuit design from concept to production.

Dedicated lectures provide an overview of applications in telecom and datacom, in biosensing, in the quantum domain, in industrial sensing and agrifood, and in remote sensing for automotive applications.

In a guided teamwork setting, participants gain hands-on experience in analyzing a complex industry scenario and evaluating its viability for integrated photonics solutions.

Site visits to partners on the High Tech Campus present an overview of what is needed to go from chip design to packaged chips, and who to turn to in the photonics ecosystem.
