Willem specializes in decision-support algorithms for logistics and supply chains. His research focuses on Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) and Markov Decision Processes, with the goal of improving complex decision-making in operational environments. He translates theoretical insights into practical applications that contribute to sustainability and the better use of scarce resources.

His expertise is widely recognized: he publishes in top-tier journals, delivers keynotes at (inter)national conferences, and leads several research projects that bridge academia and industry.

Biography

Dr. Willem van Jaarsveld is an Associate Professor at Eindhoven University of Technology (黑料福利网), within the Operations, Planning, Accounting and Control (OPAC) group. He holds a dual academic background: he studied theoretical physics at Utrecht University and econometrics (cum laude) at Erasmus University Rotterdam, where he also earned his PhD in Operations Research.

Driven by societal relevance, his work focuses on the real-world impact of algorithms. His research has led to software solutions that have been successfully implemented over extended periods at companies such as ASML, Fokker, and Shell. He is also closely involved in national research consortia such as DynaPlex and the HOPE project.
