My primary motivation for teaching is to make data & AI accessible to anyone who wants to develop in these fields. It is not just for the genius computer scientist; anyone can take meaningful steps forward by leveraging their sector expertise, and I am eager to contribute to that.

Joran brings a unique combination of expertise in econometrics, data science, and process improvement methodologies to his teaching. His experience as a data scientist, coupled with his role as a mentor in over 200 data science projects, allows him to seamlessly blend theory with practice in his lessons. He emphasizes that neither theory nor practice alone holds full value; it is the integration of both that leads to meaningful outcomes in data science applications.
Biography
Joran has a background in econometrics and completed his PhD in Health Economics. Following his doctoral work, he specialized in machine learning and data science during a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard. He has spent a significant part of his career working in healthcare, where he applied his expertise to improving data-driven decision-making in the sector.
For the past years, Joran has worked as a data scientist at Bol.com, while also continuing his advisory work on data science projects in healthcare. Since 2019, he has enjoyed teaching Professional Education programs, where he helps professionals from various sectors harness the power of AI and data science.
