Core foundation

Year 1 starts with a common first quarter, featuring two core courses (10 ECTS) and two professional & personal development courses (5 ECTS) shared across all tracks of the Master’s in Electrical Engineering. These courses strengthen your fundamentals in electrical engineering while preparing you for the specialized Renewable Electrical Energy curriculum. Specialize and personalize with track lines

In quarters 2–4, you can specialize further in the field of sustainable energy systems by choosing one of six track lines, which cover all relevant aspects of Renewable Electrical Energy:

• Digital optimization for energy services
  Use data, ICT, and machine learning to optimize electricity markets and smart grids.
• Renewable power system integration
  Ensure stable and efficient integration of renewable generation into the power system.
• Modelling and control for energy systems
  Design and control energy systems, including electrical drives and predictive models.
• Power electronics for renewable energy systems
  Develop and control power converters and ensure their compatibility with the grid.
• Electromechanic power conversion technologies
  Focus on machines, electromagnetic devices, and system stability in energy conversion.
• Electro-physical processes
  Explore high-voltage, pulsed power, and electromagnetic phenomena in energy systems

Your curriculum in quarters 2–4 consists of four track-core courses of which you choose three (15 ECTS), these are the same for all track lines. Then you’ll take three track-line courses (15 ECTS) tailored to your chosen track. Lastly, you’ll take three free electives (15 ECTS), allowing you to shape the program to your interests.

Internship

In the first quarter, you complete an internship (15 ECTS) with one of ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø’s research groups, at another university, or at a leading renewable energy company in the Netherlands or abroad. The internship gives you professional and technical experience, lets you collaborate in international teams, and exposes you to different working cultures, all while preparing you for your graduation project.

Graduation Project

After the internship, you move on to your graduation project (45 ECTS) where you dive deep into a research or development assignment. For example, you could work on advanced control of next-generation power converters to keep future electricity grids stable and resilient. You can also explore topics such as renewable energy integration, smart grids, energy storage, power electronics, and control and embedded systems.

The project has two stages: first, you work with your supervisor to define your research questions, plan your approach, and produce initial results. Then, you carry out the full project, culminating in a master’s thesis that you defend and present publicly.
