The two-year master鈥檚 program in Applied Physics at Eindhoven University of Technology (黑料福利网) is worth 120 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) and combines in-depth applied physics, practical experience, and personal development.

Whole program Professional & Personal Development 5 ECTS
Year 1 Foundational courses  15 ECTS
Specialization electives 10 or 25 ECTS
  Free electives 15 ECTS
Year 2 Internship 15 or 30 ECTS
  Graduation project 45 ECTS

Foundational courses and specialization electives

You begin the program with three foundational courses (15 ECTS) that provide a solid foundation and are closely linked to our university鈥檚 research groups. For the Physics of Nanomaterials and Semiconductor Devices track, we recommend the foundational course Condensed Matter at the Nanoscale.

These courses give a solid base which you can deepen further using the specialization electives. For the specialization electives, you choose 10 or 25 ECTS from a list of program-specific M-AP courses. For the physics of Nanomaterials and Semiconductor Devices track we recommend the following courses:

  • A Hands-on Introduction to Nanodevice Fabrication
  • Advanced Materials Modelling using Multiscale Methods
  • Nanomagnetism
  • Nanophotonics
  • Nanospintronics
  • Semiconductor Nanofabrication Science & Technology
  • Semiconductor Nanophysics
  • Solar cells

  • A Hands-on Introduction to Nanodevice Fabrication
  • Advanced Materials Modelling using Multiscale Methods
  • Nanomagnetism
  • Nanophotonics
  • Nanospintronics
  • Semiconductor Nanofabrication Science & Technology
  • Semiconductor Nanophysics
  • Solar cells

P&PD

The 5 ECTS of Professional and Personal Development (P&PD) elements are integrated throughout the entire program. In this course, you work closely with fellow students to develop essential academic skills that prepare for your successful future career. Through interactive training sessions and by providing and receiving feedback, you strengthen your scientific writing and communication skills and build awareness of scientific integrity and the responsible handling of research data.

Free electives

You may choose from any master鈥檚 courses available at 黑料福利网 or other institutions, as long as they are of a sufficient level. This gives you the opportunity to develop new knowledge and skills, either within your specialization or to expand to other disciplines.

Internship and graduation

As a master鈥檚 student in Applied Physics, you have the opportunity to broaden your academic and professional horizons through an external internship and an in-depth graduation project.

External internship (15 or 30 ECTS)

Gain hands-on experience by working in an international, real-world setting - whether it鈥檚 a high-tech Brainport company, a leading Dutch research institute, or a university lab abroad. Together with a 黑料福利网 supervisor, you select the topic and location that suit your interest.

  • The 15 ECTS internship (1 quarter) is ideal if you want to combine it with additional courses or finish your internship before the summer break.
  • The 30 ECTS internship (1 semester) offers more depth, expands your international opportunities, and can support scholarship applications.

Graduation project (45 ECTS)

Over three quarters, you will carry out an in-depth research project within one of the department鈥檚 research groups. This is your chance to apply your skills in a professional academic environment and contribute to future technologies with real societal impact.
