Core Program

As a Systems and Control student, you鈥檒l complete a 30 EC core package designed to give you the essential knowledge and skills. You鈥檒l choose 5 out of 7 core courses (25 EC), plus the mandatory 5 EC Integration Project, which brings everything together in a real-world application.

Core courses cover topics like:

• Control Engineering
• System Theory for Control
• Modeling Dynamics or Multi-body and Non-linear Dynamics
• Stochastic Processes, Filtering and Estimation
• System Identification
• Supervisory Control of Cyber-Physical Systems

To help you make the best choices, each section (research group) offers recommended profiles so you can select courses that match your interests.

Specialization Courses

After being allocated to your specialization (research group), you鈥檒l select 15 ECTS of specialization courses from a broad list of more than 30 options. These courses let you dive deeper into areas that inspire you. Most courses are worth 5 EC, with some at 2.5 EC, giving you the flexibility to mix and match. Your choices must be approved by your mentor, and while you鈥檙e encouraged to stay within your section鈥檚 offerings, you can explore courses from other sections with your mentor鈥檚 consent. This is your chance to customize your program and build expertise that aligns with your ambition

Electives

Just like with specialization courses, you have the freedom to choose your own electives. Want to dive deeper into a topic, join an internal research project, or even extend your internship? It鈥檚 all possible.

You have 15 EC of free electives to personalize your Master鈥檚 program. In consultation with your mentor, you can choose from any 黑料福利网 master-level courses, including S&C specialization courses, or even courses from other universities (with approval). Up to 5 EC of your electives can be used for homologation courses, offered in the first quartile, to strengthen your background in areas like Matlab/Simulink programming or Dynamics of Mechanical Systems. Electives are your chance to broaden your horizon, whether through technical subjects, certificate programs, or skills like academic writing so you can shape your study path to match your ambitions.

Internship

An internship or research internship is worth 15 EC.

This is equal to a full-time job for approximately ten-and-a-half weeks.  The key objective of this internship is to develop your scientific research skills. The most important goal during your internship is to develop your scientific research skills, while at the same time applying theory to practice. In close collaboration with your mentor, you choose the topic and location of your internship, to make sure it is well-aligned with your specialization.

You do your internship at 黑料福利网, a company, a research institute or another university in the Netherlands or abroad. We recommend Dutch students to pursue an internship abroad, since international work experience is very valuable. You can also extend your internship with five credits in the elective space.

Graduation project

You start your graduation project once you passed all your courses and completed your internship. During your graduation project, which lasts three quarters of the academic year, you will further develop the expertise and skills you developed in the first year. You will demonstrate that you can independently conduct a research or design project. The project can be conducted in one of the research laboratories at the department or at a company. The majority of the graduation projects are conducted at, or in collaboration with, companies and is part of a (long-standing) collaboration between the department and the connected line of business.

The pre-Master program is designed for students with a relevant HBO degree who want to continue to a Master鈥檚 at 黑料福利网. If you hold a relevant HBO degree such as Automotive, Aviation, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Engineering Physics, you can gain direct access. If you are not on the list, the Admissions Board will review your application and guide you through the next steps.

The program starts in September, and enrollment via Studielink is required before May 1. This is your chance to strengthen your foundation and prepare for an exciting Master鈥檚 in S&C.
