  Build essential skills in mathematics, experimental techniques, optimization, and numerical methods by selecting four courses from a list of 12, tailored to your specialization.

• Specialization Courses to Shape Your Expertise
  Dive deeper into your interests with 20 ECTS of specialization courses from a broad list of 28 options.

• Optional Master鈥檚 Tracks
  Want to focus even more? Choose one of the optional tracks, each linked to a research section and a professor-mentor. Tracks define a key focus area and are completed by selecting courses from the ME core and specialization lists. The overall 120 ECTS structure remains the same鈥攁nd if you prefer, you can graduate without choosing a track.

  Connect theory to practice through an internship and a 7.5-month graduation project, often in collaboration with leading companies or research institutes.

Core progam

The core program is the foundation of your Mechanical Engineering master鈥檚 at 黑料福利网, giving you essential knowledge while leaving room for flexibility. This 20 ECTS package includes four courses chosen from a list of 12, covering key topics such as mathematics, experimental techniques, optimization, and numerical methods for solving complex mechanical engineering problems. While some courses are relevant to all specializations, others connect directly to your chosen research group; allowing you to tailor your learning to your interests. Together with your mentor, you鈥檒l design a program that strengthens your expertise and prepares you for advanced projects, internships, and your graduation research.

Specialization courses

After being allocated to your specialization (research group), you鈥檒l select 20 ECTS of specialization courses from a broad list of 28 options. These courses allow you to dive deeper into areas that excite you; whether it鈥檚 robotics, modern energy systems, or advanced materials. Most courses are worth 5 EC, with some at 2.5 EC, giving you flexibility to mix and match. Your choices must be approved by your mentor, and while you鈥檙e encouraged to stay within your division鈥檚 offerings, you can explore courses from other divisions with your mentor鈥檚 consent. This is your chance to customize your program and build expertise that aligns with your ambitions.

Professional skills

In addition to the technical courses, there are two mandatory courses on professional skills. These are:

1. Coaching & Tutoring
2. Career Development

These courses are specially designed for Mechanical Engineering students. The course Coaching & Tutoring is only intended for students with experience in design-based learning or challenge-based learning. Other students take the course Teamwork and Academic Writing instead.

Free Electives

In addition, you are free to choose a number of free electives. This way, you can follow supplementary courses, join an internal research project or extend your internship. You are not limited to mechanical engineering courses. For instance, you can take the opportunity to study non-technical courses, such as philosophy or business courses. This enables you to gain a completely different perspective on your specialization, or to follow courses from a different technical department. You can also follow courses outside 黑料福利网, for example at 脡cole Polytechnique (l鈥橷), Technical University of Munich (TUM), Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU) and Tallin University of Technology (TalTech). 

Internship

Your internship (15 ECTS) is an 11-week full-time experience where you apply your knowledge to real-world challenges and develop research skills.  If you wish, you can also extend your internship with 5 extra ECTS from your elective space. You鈥檒l work on a project that fits your specialization; such as optimizing processes or creating new methods; at a company, research institute, or university in the Netherlands or abroad. Together with your mentor, you鈥檒l choose the topic and location. Dutch students are encouraged to go abroad for valuable international experience.  

This is your moment to apply what you鈥檝e learned, build professional connections, and prepare for your next big step: your graduation project and future career.

Graduation project

The graduation project is your opportunity to dive deep into a topic you鈥檙e passionate about and make a real impact in the field of Mechanical Engineering. Over 7.5 months, you鈥檒l lead a 45 EC research project, applying everything you鈥檝e learned to solve complex challenges. Whether you choose to work at 黑料福利网, in industry, or at a research institute in the Netherlands or abroad, this is your chance to shape solutions that matter and launch your career as an innovator in mechanical engineering.
