Resource-constrained systems are computing devices with limited processing power, memory, energy, storage, or communication bandwidth. Think of sensors, wearable devices, and small embedded controllers. Because these devices cannot operate like powerful computers or cloud servers, their hardware, software, and communication protocols must be designed to use resources efficiently while remaining reliable and secure.
In the Resource-constrained Systems specialization, you will learn the theoretical concepts and the practical skills to design distributed embedded systems that perform reliably despite limited resources. You will address challenges related to timing, dependability, programmability, robustness, scalability, accuracy, energy and computational efficiency, and trustworthiness.
This specialization of Computer Science and Engineering prepares you for jobs that are involved with the design, the development and the maintenance of connected and resource-efficient intelligent systems.
Curriculum
In your Computer Science and Engineering program, you can specialize in two areas. For each specialization, you choose the corresponding core course and two specialization electives.
You will start this specialization with the core course Internet of Things, exploring the architecture, communication protocols, resource management, and implementation of connected and distributed resource-constrained systems.
