Pre-master

Who is the pre-master for?

The pre-master program in Automotive Technology is designed for students who are not directly admissible to the master’s program. It provides the academic foundation needed to bridge the gap between your previous education and a university-level master’s degree.

The program is open to graduates from research universities (wo) who do not qualify for direct admission to the Master’s programme in Automotive Technology, as well as graduates from Universities of Applied Sciences (hbo) in related disciplines. Relevant hbo backgrounds include Automotive, Aviation or Aeronautical Engineering, Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Engineering Physics, Mechanical Engineering, and Mechatronics. Applicants holding an hbo or university degree in another field may also be considered. In such cases, eligibility is assessed individually by the Departmental Admissions Board.

If you’re motivated to deepen your knowledge, strengthen your theoretical foundation, and continue into a Master’s in Automotive Technology, this program is your pathway. To apply, you’ll also need to meet the .

What does the pre-master look like?

The pre-master’s program consists of 30 ECTS and typically takes six months to complete. You’ll follow six core courses that build a strong theoretical foundation in Automotive Technology and mathematics, equipping you with the essential disciplinary knowledge needed to enter the Master’s program directly. Below, you can find an overview of the curriculum*.

How to apply

You can apply for the pre-master’s program through the regular application process for the Master’s in Automotive Technology. Your application will be assessed to determine whether a pre-master is required based on your previous education. The application deadline for the pre-master’s program is May 1. Please note that the pre-master can only be started in Semester A, which begins in September.

If you are eligible, you’ll receive an offer for the pre-master’s program. After successfully completing it, you can start the Master’s program (additional admission requirements may apply).

hbo-TOP

Are you an ambitious University of Applied Sciences (hbo) student and do you want to continue on to a master’s program at ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø after your bachelor’s degree? If so, you may be eligible for the hbo-TOP program. You follow the hbo-TOP program as a minor during your hbo studies. It consists of courses from the pre-master’s program, but the key difference is when you take them: with hbo-TOP, you complete these courses during your bachelor’s degree, rather than after it as part of a pre-master’s program. The major advantage is that, after successfully completing your bachelor’s degree and meeting the admission requirements, you can directly enter the ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø master’s program.

On this page you can read more about the admission requirements and the application process for the hbo-TOP program. If you have any questions regarding the hbo-TOP program, you can contact us at ME.hbo.coordinator@tue.nl.
