WHY HIGH-TECH SYSTEMS AND ROBOTICS?

High-tech systems and robotics are important application domains for artificial intelligence and engineering systems. These industries combine methods and tooling from computer science, information technology, systems and control, and life and social sciences.

These industries are intensive on technology development and increasingly demand autonomous decision-making, robust performance of machines in uncertain environments, and realization of high-level machine specifications. This creates a strong focus on control, automated decision-making, and process optimization.

What will you learn?

In this track you learn how data-based and model-based tools can be properly employed for process optimization, design, and the control of dynamical systems. Like in many technical applications, uncertainty in either the process, its operation, or its environment plays a key role that needs to be understood and considered in decision-making processes.

You will gain expertise in:

  • Learning from process behavior and reducing uncertainty
  • Using AI techniques and experimental data to gain relevant process knowledge
  • Applying data-driven insights for process optimization and performance enhancement
  • Verification and performance certification in safety-critical situations
  • Modeling and complexity management in cyber-physical systems
  • Human interfacing
  • Failure prediction, maintenance scheduling, service, support, and calibration
  • Data-human-machine integration to enhance and complement human decision-making in high-tech systems

Curriculum

1) Each track within Artificial Intelligence & Engineering Systems includes the same core courses (30 ECTS) and Personal & Professional Development courses (5 ECTS)

2) You choose three electives (15 ECTS) to tailor the track to your interests. You select one course from each of the following themes:

  1. Domain-Specific Knowledge and Learning & Intelligence
  2. AI in Engineered Systems
  3. Data Cultivation

3) You choose an additional 15 ECTS of free electives.
