WHY HEALTHCARE?
Globally, access to healthcare has been steadily increasing over the last decades. Combined with the rapid development of medical sensing technologies, this has led to an enormous amount of patient data with unprecedented levels of detail. Artificial Intelligence plays a crucial role in analyzing this data, supporting medical specialists in diagnosis, treatment planning, and patient care. By uncovering patterns that are difficult for humans to detect, AI enables more effective, efficient, and personalized healthcare.
Beyond data analysis, AI is transforming healthcare technologies themselves. - The basic principles of medical imaging methods such as CT, MRI and ultrasound, and how AI could be leveraged to enhance them
- Robotics and AI for assistive devices (hearing, speech, rehabilitation)
- AI for computer-assisted interventions to support e.g. surgical procedures
- Predictive modelling for treatment response
- Remote patient monitoring and anomaly detection
- Efficient methods to harness information from large medical data sets (e.g. self-supervised learning, transfer learning and federated learning)
- Explainable AI for efficient communication of AI findings with medical experts

Curriculum
1) Each track within Artificial Intelligence & Engineering Systems includes the same core courses (30 ECTS) and Personal & Professional Development courses (5 ECTS)
2) You choose three electives (15 ECTS) to tailor the track to your interests. You select one course from each of the following themes:
- Domain-Specific Knowledge and Learning & Intelligence
- AI in Engineered Systems
- Data Cultivation
3) You choose an additional 15 ECTS of free electives.
