The AI&ES master is a two-year program, consisting of 120 credits. During these two years, you will follow core and track-specific courses, electives, and professional and personal development courses, complete an internship in a team and carry out your final graduation project. The program is taught in English.

Core courses
Students gain a solid foundation in AI and engineering systems, covering 6 core topics (30 ECTS). Students complete five core courses and choose either course 6a or 6b in Engineering Systems.

Track-specific courses
In quarter 2 of year 1, students start their master鈥檚 track, allowing them to develop expertise in a particular domain of AI and Engineering Systems and prepare for further research projects in the selected track. Each track includes three track-specific courses (15 ECTS), organized around three themes. Within the selected track, students choose one course from each of the following themes:
- Domain-specific knowledge and Learning and Intelligence
- AI in Engineered Systems
- Data Cultivation

Master's tracks
Personal and professional development and scientific integrity
In the AI&ES Master鈥檚 program, personal and professional development is an integral part of the education. Alongside technical knowledge, the program supports students in developing the skills, mindset, and professional identity needed to become responsible and future-ready AI and engineering systems engineers.
The Personal and Professional Development (P&PD) component consists of 2 courses:
- Professional Development AI&ES
The course is highly interactive and based on workshops, peer feedback, and real-world simulations. It provides a safe and structured environment to explore your ambitions and build confidence in your future direction. - Information Literacy, Research Integrity, and Academic Writing
The course combines guided self-study, tutorials, and writing workshops, supporting you in producing well-structured, evidence-based academic work. These skills are essential for your courses, graduation project, and professional career.
Free elective courses
To further personalize your master's journey, you can dedicate 15 ECTS to free electives that allow you to deepen your knowledge within Artificial Intelligence and Engineering Systems, explore topics beyond your chosen track, or broaden your academic and professional perspective. You might choose courses from different AI&ES tracks, courses offered by other 黑料福利网 master's programs, or courses at other universities in the Netherlands or abroad.
Electives are often selected to support the graduation project by developing relevant knowledge and competencies. Students are therefore supported by their track mentors to make their elective choices. For students with admission deficiencies, elective credits may also be used to complete homologation requirements. By carefully selecting electives, you can create a study pathway that supports both your academic development and future career.
Team internship
The team internship () is a Challenge-Based-Learning project in which students collaborate in teams to apply their knowledge on Artificial Intelligence and Engineering Systems to resolve a practical engineering problem within either a company, or with a laboratory set-up on campus. The project involves an application that is relevant to the specific track that the students follow in the AI&ES program.

Graduation project
The Graduation project () is an individual research project worth 45 ECTS credits on a topic related to artificial intelligence in the context of engineering systems. The graduation project can be carried out within all 黑料福利网 departments connected to the AI&ES master, within a company or another university or research institute in the Netherlands or abroad. The Graduation project is track related, and during 8 months, you will further develop your expertise and skills.

International Experience
You have the possibility to follow courses abroad, the Electrical Engineering department has bilateral agreements with partner universities around the world. Spending some time abroad is a great way to immerse yourself in another culture, develop soft skills like (intercultural) communication, adaptability and problem-solving, and strengthen your position on the job market. Students may also follow a specialization course at another university if this gives a better match with their study plans. Additionally, you have the possibility to do your graduation project outside of the Netherlands.
