A specialization within MSc Applied Physics

Plasma Physics and Technology

Power your future with Plasma Physics and Technology

Plasmas play a key role in technologies ranging from semiconductor manufacturing to future fusion energy. In the Plasma Physics and Technology specialization, you study the physics of ionized gases and explore how plasmas can be applied in advanced materials processing, plasma medicine and sustainable energy technologies. By combining theory, experiments and modelling, you develop the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to both scientific discoveries and technological innovations.

Why choose this specialization?

  • Explore plasmas and their applications in semiconductor technology and fusion energy.
  • Combine experiments with advanced diagnostics and computational modelling.
  • Work on technologies that address real-world challenges.

What will I learn and do?

You learn how plasmas are created, characterised and controlled, and how their properties can be applied in advanced technologies. The program combines theory, simulations and experiments, covering topics such as low-temperature plasmas, plasma-material interactions and transport phenomena.

Depending on your elective courses and graduation project, you can focus on areas such as experimental plasma physics, computational plasma modelling, industrial plasma technologies, plasma-material interactions and fusion-related plasma science.

You gain hands-on experience with experiments, diagnostics and computational methods while learning how to analyse complex systems and solve multidisciplinary problems. These skills prepare you for careers in research, engineering or for pursuing a PhD.
