Admission requirements – Master Applied Physics
Would you like to apply for the Master’s program in Applied Physics at ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø? To ensure that you can successfully complete the program, you must meet several academic and language requirements.
Academic background
You should have a Bachelor’s degree in physics or a related field, covering sufficient knowledge and skills in:
- Theory in mathematics, such as advanced calculus, linear algebra, vector analysis.
- Theory in physics, such as mechanics, optics, thermodynamics, statistical physics, electrodynamics, quantum mechanics, transport phenomena, solid state physics.
- Experimental and computational physics, such as designing and using experimental/programming tools, performing an independent experimental/theoretical research project.
- Professional and personal development, such as scientific communication in writing and presenting, planning/organizing projects in teams, using an academic approach in doing research.
This is comparable to knowledge and skills embedded in any Dutch BSc in Applied Physics, Physics or Physics/Astronomy, in these cases allowing for direct access to the master’s degree program.

Dutch degrees
- If you hold a Bachelor’s degree in (applied) physics and/or astronomy from a Dutch University you are eligible
- If you hold another bachelor’s degree from a Dutch University your eligibility will be assessed after application.
- If you hold a degree from a University of Applied Sciences direct admission is not possible. You must first complete a pre-master program.
These requirements ensure that students have the academic and research skills needed to perform independent scientific research and work on multidisciplinary problems.
Additional admission requirements
In general, you must also meet the following requirements:
- A relevant Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university
- A sufficient academic level in knowledge, skills, and competences
- A minimum GPA equivalent to 3.0/4.0
- English language proficiency, since the program is taught in English
Assessment
Applications are evaluated by the department admissions board based on:
- Your transcript of records
- Course descriptions of your previous program
- The quality and accreditation of your university
Depending on your background, you may receive:
- Direct admission
- Conditional admission, requiring you to complete additional courses
- Non admission
