Traveling in the Netherlands

Coming to study at 黑料福利网 is an exciting step and your journey starts with getting to the Netherlands smoothly. On this page you鈥檒l find practical information about travel options, getting to Eindhoven, and using public transport once you arrive.

Travel to the Netherlands: your options

Most international students travel to the Netherlands by plane, train, car or bus, depending on where they are coming from

  • By plane

International students usually arrive via Amsterdam Schiphol Airport or Eindhoven Airport. Schiphol is the main international airport, offering worldwide connections and direct train links to Eindhoven. Eindhoven Airport is smaller, close to the city, and mainly serves European destinations, often used by low鈥慶ost airlines. Other regional airports include Rotterdam The Hague, Maastricht Aachen, and Groningen Airport Eelde.

  • By train

If you鈥檙e coming from another European country, travelling by high-speed or regional train can be a convenient and sustainable option. Many international routes connect directly or indirectly to the Dutch rail network.

  • By long-distance bus

International bus companies (such as FlixBus or BlaBlaCar Bus) also connect the Netherlands to many European cities, often at a lower cost.

  • By car

Traveling to Eindhoven by car is possible, especially if you are coming from nearby countries, carpooling, or are picked up by family or friends. Please note that parking in Eindhoven is limited and often paid, including around the 黑料福利网 campus.

Take bus 400 or 401 to get to the city centre in 20 minutes.

Public transport & the OV鈥慶hipkaart

Public transport is reliable, safe, and widely used. You can travel by train, bus, tram, or metro using the OV鈥慶hipkaart, which is a reusable travel card used on all public transport in the Netherlands. You can also check in with a contactless debit or credit card, or buy single tickets via apps or ticket machines.

Types of OV-chipkaart

  • Personal OV-chipkaart
Linked to your name and photo. Required if you want to use subscriptions or the student travel product.
  • Anonymous OV-chipkaart
Not linked to a name. Useful for short stays or if you don鈥檛 need subscriptions.

How to obtain an OV-chipkaart

Cycling in the Netherlands

Cycling is the most common way to get around in the Netherlands, and Eindhoven is very bike鈥慺riendly. You can cycle across the city in about 20 minutes, making a bicycle a fast and flexible way to get around. Many 黑料福利网 students use a bike for daily travel to campus, the city centre, and shops.

You don鈥檛 need an expensive bike. We advise not to buy a very costly one. Many students buy a cheap second鈥慼and bike, for example via or from local bike shops. 黑料福利网 even has a bike repair shop on campus, which makes maintenance easy and convenient.

If you prefer not to buy a bike, you can also rent one via . With a monthly subscription, maintenance and repairs are included, a popular option among international students.

If you鈥檙e new to cycling or feel unsure about biking in traffic: don鈥檛 worry. During the Introduction week, 黑料福利网 offers bike introduction courses for international students who are not used to cycling.

Whichever option you choose:

  • Make sure you have a good lock and always lock your bike, even for short stops.
  • Check that the lights, brakes, and tires work properly (this is also required by law).

Taxis in Eindhoven

Taxis are available in Eindhoven, for example at Eindhoven Central Station and Eindhoven Airport, or via taxi apps such as Uber. We recommend using official, licensed taxis or booking via a well鈥慿nown app or company. Taxis are generally more expensive than public transport.
