Housing for PhD and EngD students

Finding housing in the Eindhoven region can be challenging and requires proactive effort.

While ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø does not provide housing directly, we do offer limited support for PhD and EngD candidates through our housing partners Vestide, Plaza Resident Services and Xior Student Housing. These partners provide a small number of fully furnished accommodation, only for one or two people.

Please note: ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø housing support is intended for PhD and EngD candidates relocating to the Netherlands from abroad. Candidates who are already living in the Netherlands are not eligible for ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø partner housing and need to find accommodation through the private market.

As availability is very limited and not guaranteed, most candidates will need to find housing via the private housing market. We therefore strongly recommend that you actively explore multiple options alongside any ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø-facilitated opportunities.

Housing via ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø partners

PhD and EngD candidates who will stay at ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø for at least one year and are looking for accommodation for one or two persons can apply for housing through ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø. During the onboarding process, candidates who meet these criteria receive an email with information on how to submit a housing request.

How it works:

  • Submit your housing request using the instructions provided in the onboarding email.
  • Your HR department reviews and approves the request.
  • Approved requests are processed by the International Office Housing Service.
  • Allocation is based on the date the housing request is approved.
  • Around 8 weeks before your planned arrival, you will be informed whether:
    • you receive a one-time housing offer, or
    • you are placed on the reserve list.

If you receive an offer:

  • You will be given access to a secure booking environment (not publicly accessible).
  • You can select from the available accommodation at that moment.
  • Availability depends on cancellations from current tenants.
  • The start date may be slightly earlier or later than your arrival.

Important to know

  • A housing offer is not guaranteed.
  • ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø partner housing is only suitable for one- or two-person households.
  • If you are relocating with children, you will need to find accommodation via the private market, as family housing is not available via ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø housing partners.

Costs and practical information

Vestide offers furnished housing, typically including:

  • Gas, water, electricity
  • Internet
  • Municipal taxes and service costs

Indicative rental prices:

  • 1-person accommodation: approx. €450 – €850 per month
  • 2-person accommodation: approx. €700 – €1000 per month

Please be prepared to pay:

  • First month’s rent
  • Deposit
  • Additional fees (if applicable)

These costs must be arranged by the tenant and cannot be advanced by ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø.

Finding housing independently

Because ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø housing is limited, most candidates will need to secure accommodation via the private market.

We recommend:

  • Starting your search as early as possible.
  • Using multiple platforms and agencies.
  • Considering temporary housing solutions if needed.
