Program. What is Chemical Engineering and Chemistry about?

Chemical Engineering and Chemistry focuses on both chemistry and scaling up chemical processes. You鈥檒l study chemical reactions and how they work, and you鈥檒l also explore how to carry them out on a larger scale. For example, in plastic production, you鈥檒l learn both how plastic is made chemically and how to produce it in a large reactor. Sustainability plays a significant role in the program as well 鈥 we examine how processes can be improved and made more sustainable.

Program. What is the difference between Chemical Engineering and 鈥渏ust鈥 Chemistry?

Chemical Engineering also looks at how to scale up chemical reactions for large-scale applications. 鈥淛ust鈥 chemistry focuses more on the chemistry itself.

Program. What kind of courses will I take?

You鈥檒l take courses on chemistry and scaling processes. Many courses have a practical component in the lab. You鈥檒l also participate in Challenge-Based Learning (CBL) projects. Additionally, students have the option to select electives outside their department.

Program. Do I need to be good at Mathematics B, Physics, and Chemistry?

This depends on the individual. Your attitude and motivation also play a significant role. If you struggle to get passing grades in these subjects, they might become challenging during the program.

Program. Is Chemical Engineering and Chemistry a difficult program?
